Course of Astro-Statistics

The Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory is organizing a course of statistics applied to astrophysical problems. The lectures will illustrate techniques to solve of a number of statistical problems commonly encountered in astrophysics:

2-3:  Introduction to Astrostatistics  [general lecture]
3-4:  Introduction to the R statistical computing environment [lecture and tutorial]

Tuesday April 15, 2-4pm
2-3:   Density estimation (or data smoothing) [lecture and tutorial]
3-4:   Regression [lecture and tutorial]
 
Wednesday April 16, 2-4pm
2-3:  Data mining: Clustering and classification [lecture and tutorial]
3-4:  Common statistical mistakes in the astronomical literature [general lecture]
 
Tutorial participants should have laptops with R installed, see
